Frequently Asked Questions

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Naturopathic medicine is a holistic approach to healthcare that emphasizes the body's ability to heal itself and focuses on treating the root causes of illness rather than just the symptoms. It is guided by six core principles:

  1. The Healing Power of Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae): Naturopathic medicine recognizes the body's inherent ability to heal itself. Practitioners aim to support and enhance this healing process by identifying and removing obstacles to recovery.
  2. Identify and Treat the Causes (Tolle Causam): Naturopaths seek to uncover and address the underlying causes of illness rather than merely alleviating symptoms. This involves a thorough assessment of a patient's lifestyle, environment, and genetic factors.
  3. First Do No Harm (Primum Non Nocere): Naturopathic treatments are chosen with the intention of minimizing the risk of side effects, avoiding the suppression of symptoms, and using the least invasive methods. The emphasis is on promoting health and well-being without causing harm.
  4. Doctor as Teacher (Docere): Naturopathic physicians aim to educate and empower their patients to take an active role in their health and their family's health. By providing information and guidance, practitioners help individuals make informed decisions about their well-being.
  5. Treat the Whole Person (Tolle Totum): Naturopaths consider the interconnectedness of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of an individual when developing a treatment plan. The goal is to address all aspects of a person's health to promote overall well-being.
  6. Prevention (Praevenic): Naturopathic medicine places a strong emphasis on preventive measures to avoid illness and maintain optimal health. This involves assessing risk factors, making lifestyle adjustments, and utilizing natural therapies to support the body's preventive mechanisms.

By adhering to these principles, naturopathic medicine seeks to provide comprehensive and individualized care that goes beyond symptom management, aiming for long-term health and vitality.

Naturopathic physicians in Arizona can prescribe medications within their scope of practice, emphasizing a holistic and natural approach to healthcare while incorporating pharmaceutical interventions when necessary for patient care.
